RIO GRANDE VALLEY
Bookkeeping, Payroll & Tax Services Across the Rio Grande Valley
The Rio Grande Valley is home to one of the most dynamic small business communities in Texas. Stretching from Brownsville to McAllen, from Harlingen to Mission, the RGV is a region where tens of thousands of entrepreneurs run restaurants, medical practices, construction crews, import/export operations, retail stores, and professional services — often in two languages, often across city lines, and almost always with the kind of resourcefulness that comes from building something in a market that national firms tend to overlook.
National Bookkeeping Company® is based in McAllen and serves small businesses across the entire Valley. We provide professional bookkeeping, payroll processing, tax coordination, business formation, and catch-up bookkeeping — all from a bilingual team that understands how business actually works in this part of Texas.
Cities We Serve Across the Valley
We work with business owners throughout the RGV. Some meet with us in person at our McAllen office, and others work with us entirely over Zoom. Either way, you get the same team, the same quality, and the same attention to your books.
- McAllen — Our headquarters at 315 W Nolana Ave. In-person meetings and Zoom consultations available. This is where every client relationship starts.
- Edinburg — The Hidalgo County seat, home to UTRGV, and a growing startup ecosystem. We work with university-area businesses, law firms near the courthouse, and new entrepreneurs launching their first LLCs.
- Pharr — The international trade hub of the Valley. We serve logistics companies, customs brokerages, warehousing operations, and import/export businesses connected to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.
- Mission — Known for its agricultural heritage and seasonal businesses. We specialize in bookkeeping for operations with uneven revenue cycles — citrus, landscaping, and seasonal hospitality.
- Weslaco, Harlingen, and Brownsville — Served via Zoom with the same monthly bookkeeping, payroll, and tax coordination we provide to our in-person clients. Distance doesn't change the quality of the work.
Industries Across the Valley
The RGV's economy is remarkably diverse for a region its size. That diversity means we've built experience across a wide range of industries, each with its own bookkeeping requirements:
- Agriculture and seasonal operations — Citrus groves, produce distribution, landscaping companies, and other businesses with revenue that fluctuates by season. We structure books around actual cash flow cycles.
- International trade and logistics — Import/export, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, warehousing, and cold storage. High-volume transactions and cross-border complexity require organized records.
- Healthcare — Medical practices, dental offices, chiropractic clinics, and therapy practices. We track insurance reimbursements, patient revenue, and practice expenses clearly.
- Food service and hospitality — Restaurants, food trucks, catering companies, and hotels. Daily sales tracking, tip reporting, sales tax compliance, and high employee turnover make bookkeeping essential.
- Construction and trades — General contractors, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, and roofing companies. Job costing, subcontractor payments, and project-based revenue need careful tracking.
- Professional services — Law firms, accounting firms, consulting, and real estate. Clean books and accurate financial statements are non-negotiable for client-facing businesses.
- Retail and e-commerce — Brick-and-mortar shops, online stores, and businesses that do both. Inventory tracking, sales tax, and multi-channel revenue all need to be reconciled.
- Auto repair and dealerships — Parts inventory, labor billing, warranty work, and customer financing. We keep the financial side organized so you can focus on the shop floor.
Why One Bookkeeping Team for the Whole Valley
Some RGV business owners wonder whether they should use a local bookkeeper in their own city or work with a team based elsewhere in the Valley. Here's why working with one team that covers the entire region makes sense:
Consistent quality across locations. Whether you're in McAllen, Brownsville, or anywhere in between, you get the same processes, the same standards, and the same team. If you open a second location in a different city, your bookkeeping doesn't miss a beat.
A team that understands RGV business realities. We're not a national firm applying generic templates to Valley businesses. We know how seasonal revenue works here, how cross-border commerce affects your books, and what Hidalgo County and Cameron County businesses actually deal with day to day.
Bilingual by default. Our team works in English and Spanish — not as a special accommodation, but as standard practice. This is the RGV. Bilingual service shouldn't be an upgrade.
In-person in McAllen, Zoom everywhere else. Clients who want face-to-face meetings can visit our office at 315 W Nolana Ave. Everyone else works with us over Zoom — same responsiveness, same access to your bookkeeper.
Pricing that works for Valley businesses. SmartBook plans start at $350/month for the Essential tier. Growth is $550/month. Premium is $750/month. Transparent pricing, no hidden fees, and plans that scale as you grow.
What Every RGV Business Gets
Regardless of your industry or which Valley city you're in, every National Bookkeeping Company client receives:
- Monthly reconciled books — Every transaction categorized, every account balanced, every month closed on time. No backlog, no guesswork.
- Financial statements — Profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements delivered monthly so you can see exactly how your business is performing.
- Cash flow visibility — Know what's coming in, what's going out, and what's left. Especially critical for seasonal businesses and companies with uneven revenue.
- Tax-ready records year-round — When tax season arrives, your books are already organized. No scrambling, no catch-up. Your CPA or tax preparer gets clean data from day one.
- A real person to call — You're not submitting tickets to a queue. You have a dedicated bookkeeper who knows your business and answers when you call.
Need to catch up on months of missed bookkeeping? Our catch-up bookkeeping service gets your records current before transitioning to a monthly plan. Starting a new business? We handle LLC formation with the Texas Secretary of State so you can launch with a clean legal and financial foundation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you serve businesses outside McAllen?
Yes. While our office is in McAllen, we serve small businesses across the entire Rio Grande Valley — including Edinburg, Pharr, Mission, Weslaco, Harlingen, Brownsville, and everywhere in between. Most of our Valley clients outside McAllen work with us via Zoom, and they receive the same monthly bookkeeping, payroll, and tax coordination as our in-person clients.
Can I meet with you in person if I'm in Harlingen or Brownsville?
Our office is in McAllen at 315 W Nolana Ave, and you're welcome to visit in person. For clients in Harlingen, Brownsville, and the eastern Valley, Zoom meetings are usually more practical — and many of our clients prefer them regardless of distance. The quality of service is identical either way.
How much does bookkeeping cost for RGV small businesses?
Our SmartBook plans start at $350/month for the Essential tier, which includes monthly bookkeeping and financial statements. The Growth plan at $550/month adds payroll processing, and the Premium plan at $750/month includes a dedicated bookkeeper and priority tax coordination. Do you work with businesses in both English and Spanish?
Yes. Our team is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. You can communicate with us in whichever language you prefer — during consultations, on calls, and in written correspondence. This isn't an add-on service; it's how we operate by default because that's how business works in the RGV.
What industries do you serve in the Valley?
We work with businesses across every major RGV industry — agriculture, international trade, healthcare, food service, construction, professional services, retail, e-commerce, and auto repair.
